Human Factors in Sports Coaching

The effect of training in coaching should not be overlooked - a coach has an essential role in team-building. Coaches require the ability to motivate players in order to achieve the desired performance.

The understanding of human and mental factors is one of the most important elements in sports coaching. Both mind and body need to be in sync for peak performance.

For Coaches

You will become a more successful coach by understanding the needs of the team - this includes human and mental factors, empowerment, motivation, trust, culture, respect and understanding of how learning works.

Coaches need to ask themselves some key questions:

  • How can I become successful?
  • How do I define success?
  • How can I get the best out of the individual players and build a winning team?
  • How can I achieve team and organisation objectives?
  • How and when can I give motivational & developmental feedback?
  • How can I deal with disappointment?
  • How is my own performance?
  • How can I boost my team's confidence using mental coaching strategies?

For Players

I also provide courses for players. I believe that when the coach and the players have a good understanding of the human and mental factors affecting their play, the road to success is easier to travel.

Players may often experience:

  • Fear of failure and bad outcomes.
  • Fragile confidence after mistakes (bad passes, missed goals, etc.).
  • Poor control of emotions when dealing with mistakes.
  • Problems performing under pressure.

Improved focus and increased confidence are vital to overcome the above situations - and this training can help with that.
